Portal Vase ii

The Portal Vase series has been created as an invitation to those needing to escape from their realities. It is an invitation to step through a golden archway into a world of your imagination; maybe its a world without pain, suffering or grief - it’s up to you and your imagination. The idea behind these vessels was born from my experiences of living with endometriosis and the chronic pain it causes me. I have a Portal Vase in my bedroom to help me escape my flare-ups.

The Portal Vase is a lidded vessel that is completely water tight and functional, its lid can be removed when you have flowers and placed back on top when you don’t. This piece has been constructed through the methodical process of hand rolled coils using earthy stoneware clays that exhibit flecks of glossy minerals. The interior has been sealed with a glossy white glaze which contrasts the organic matte exterior. The portal has been painted on using gold lustre.
