Foundation is a series of hand rolled coiled monuments exhibiting a diverse dichotomy of simplicity and complexity. The monuments reflect earthy clays, with the colour scheme inspired by the beauty of the archaic Australian landscape. The organic forms are influenced by desert Australia termite mounds and ant nests, while the intricacy of the exposed coils mimic the internal pathways created by the ants.

The coils are repetitively stacked in a process of making that is a balanced arrangement of artist knowledge and skill, elevated by the chunky stilt-like constructions; built to complement and highlight the fragility and intricacy of the body it holds. For Mali, the slow yet methodical and meditative making process silences frenetic city life - resulting in free-form structures that evolved and revealed themselves - provoking thoughts of nature, silence and connection.
